The "Boylan-Haven-Mather Academy Alumni Memorial Scholarship" at Claflin University in Orangeburg, SC helps eligible Education majors afford to pursue their years of study.
This financial award, created in 2013, is our "Joshua stone" for those who will seek education after us. They will know and remember that Mather parted a safe pathway through the flood of educational barriers for many young people and helped make this a better world.
We preserve the vision of founder Sarah Babcock, and the spirit of Lulu B. Bryan, Evelyn "Ma" Gittens, John Roy Harper Sr., Mary Dorn, Thelma Walker, Barbara Boultinghouse and many other Mather faculty and administrators who believed education is an indispensable avenue to achievement for African Americans.
